With the end of the year approaching, now is the perfect time to take off any extra holiday and set off for a weekend break in the UK. Off-peak prices mean you can get some great deals on travel and days out, saving you money to spend on the fantastic UK hotels available. We’ve chosen our favorite destinations for a romantic getaway this winter.
Warwick Castle, Warwick
Voted the UK’s hottest place for a date by the Royal Institute of British Architects (and they should know!), Warwick Castle is the perfect throwback to the love stories of Medieval times. Potential suitors can even arrange to dress in a suit of armor to propose to love ones!
Hadrian’s Wall, Cambria
Hadrian’s Wall stretches for 73 miles across the north of England. It was here, surrounded by the beautiful English countryside, that Sir Walter Scott proposed to his wife in 1797. Stunning green vistas broken up only by miles and miles of stone turrets and Roman walls offer a fantastic weekend of exploration.
Burgh Island, Devon
A small, relatively isolated tidal island just off the coast of Devon, Burgh Island is ideal for a quiet, intimate break away. A network of footpaths across the island provide ideal opportunities for walking and exploring, while the Art Deco hotel serves fantastic champagne cream teas and classic 1920s-style evening balls.
Stancombe Park, the Cotswold’s
The folly gardens of Stancombe Park are hugely romantic, with a charming Grade I listed temple rising up from the centre of the lake, and a number of statues and gardens to discover. The temple, itself the setting for many local love stories, can even be rented out by couples for the night.
Leeds Christmas Markets, North Yorkshire
From the middle of November, Leeds plays host to a fantastic German-style Christmas market, transforming the town centre into a winter wonderland in preparation for the holiday season. Look out for hot chocolate and churls, handmade crafts, and enjoy the Christmas lights with a warming glass of Gluhwein for a truly magical UK break.
